How many of you get tired of your kids scratching up your dining table? I know I do. I must of gone through 3 dining tables in our 2 years in Cincinnati. This time I took matters into my own hands. I bought a used solid wood farmhouse style dining table and distressed the heck out of it so my kids (or husband) couldn't mess it up.
This is what it looked like before
and this is what it looks like now.
Here is how I did it.
1.) I spray painted the base in Rustoleum Oil Rubbed Bronze
2.) I sanded and painted the table in 5 layers of neutral tones
- teal blue
-greyish brown (lightly with a brush)
3,) I heavily sanded the top.
4.) I taped off and painted the center in chalkboard paint to look like a runner.
5.) I washed the non chalkboard area with miniwax dark paste wax.
The runner is really great for writing the menu, place marks of where to sit, or for your kids to go at it with chalk to keep them occupied during dinner.
Wait until you see the chairs I am pairing it with. One of the two chairs I bought pictured above broke, so I am using one of them because my husband insist on it being his desk chair (the dining table doubles as his desk), but the rest well lets just say I have to be creative.
As you can see we're partying all week long. I probably need to go to link party rehab. Oh well, grab a martini and join us....Monica
